Drum Crash Cymbals
Explorers Percussion carries a wide variety of drum kit crash cymbals, which are essential to any drum set. Providing subtle to strong accents in songs, these cymbals are typically between 16”–20” in diameter but vary in thickness and profile which effect the volume, sustain, attack and pitch.
are offered in different weights. Thinner crash cymbals will have a quicker decay or shorter sustain, lower pitch and less volume. The thinner cymbal will also have a quicker response when struck softly than the thicker cymbal which can have a slower response when struck softly. Thicker cymbals usually have a higher pitch, more attack sustain and volume.
are primarily made for the beginning drummer. The have are warm and somewhat duller sound than the more popular bronze. They have the tendency to not open up and have the spread as of a more expensive cymbal. Which would employ higher craftmanship (hammering & lathing) and made of bronze.
- are usually made of B8 Alloy which is 92% copper and 8% tin. They have a uniform thickness and composition. They are more expensive than brass cymbals but less expensive than cast cymbals. There is usually some lathing and hammering pressed in their surface with a lacquered finish preventing oxidation and tarnishing.
Machined Hammered Cast Bronze Cymbals
are made from 80% copper and 20% tin known as B20 alloy. These cymbals offer extensive versatility and come in a huge range of weights and sizes. Overall, they are brighter in tone and can be thin and delicate to thick and heavy to cut through higher volume music.
Hand hammered Cast Bronze cymbals
are also made with B20 alloy but have a warmer and sometimes dryer sound than the machined hammered cymbals. The hammered cymbals can be mixed with machined hammered cymbals in a cymbal set up. Hand Hammered cymbals are unique and sometimes more complex due to the type of hammering and lathing techniques used within the many models offered. Different hammering techniques from the past to the present along with many different lathing techniques offers many choices with dark, rich and dry sounds. Hand Hammered cymbals will almost blend in with any type of music.
